Have you ever looked at the art on your coins?

Today on Sunday Morning, there was an excellent story about the beautiful artwork we all carry in our pockets and the artists who create it. I highly recommend it.

I Spy… Initials

A big part of my childhood was collecting all 50 state quarters and storing them in my fancy Collector’s Book. So I was extremely interested in this story.

The most surprising thing I learned from the CBS story was that each illustration is complete with the initials of the artist.

I had to investigate. I got out my handy Mpow (macro and fisheye) lenses which I have previously blogged about.

Let’s go in for a close-up!

Here are the initials of the featured artist of the interview, Donald Everhart, on the quarter for Perry’s Victory, Ohio, 2013.

Here are the initials “JFM” on the quarter for Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, 2013. I believe these are the initials of Joseph Menna.

Can you see the initials on this coin? They are very well disguised.

Here are the initials “PH” on the quarter for White Mountains, New Hampshire, 2013. I believe these are the initials of Phebe Hemphill.
